Design Brief
The new office of Prudential Insurance sits at the core of Kai Tak Development – the new Airside commercial building. Being the central point of Kai Tak, Kowloon City, Kwun Tong or being the centre point of Kowloon, the client would like to put up a feature wall which presented encapsulates the visionary aspirations of Prudential insurance professionals. The designer team from Richards Basmajian decided to put on a map of the area, giving the tone of vision and showcasing the unwavering commitment of the client to growth and expansion, as well as their dedicated focus on customer satisfaction and retention. The team’s affiliation is a testament to their unity and embodies a remarkable sense of ambition and relentless pursuit of innovation in fulfilling their resolute mission.
Redesign process
Approximate 300 building blocks from Kowloon City and Kwun Tong area map was extracted and retraced for the production. Using visual positioning, these timber blocks were then CNC milled out from Acacia slabs. The technique made it possible to save timber materials and CNC time to mill, instead of fully manual labor to cut the blocks by hand. Only minor polishing and sanding were needed after the production. Each blocks were labelled with index to ensure positioning on the map composition.
Installation Process
The image of the entire map was projected onto the wall to give the spacing of the blocks. Each blocks were taped and nailed onto the wall with indexs respectively. It took the team four days on site to complete the on site installation, including a light boxed Logo on upper right.

The work is marked with a blockchain tag created by our IT partner OneChain, which client can scan the NFC embedded in the unique captions.
